What is a job in advisory?
Consulting consultants provide support and advice to help with business challenges and often serve as an ongoing or on-demand resource to help when needed. Advisors often specialize in a specific area of business — such as financial strategies or technology — or may focus on advising on issues related to a particular product line or service. Consultants often serve as a link between customers and internal specialists. Consulting consultants usually have at least a bachelor’s degree in a business discipline, although an advanced degree such as an MBA is an advantage. They are expected to have extensive experience in a wide range of business topics.
Since these are often customer-oriented roles, consultants must be comfortable dealing with external contacts and internal stakeholders in multiple departments and at all levels. Consulting is not a 9-to-5 job. You may feel like you’re “always active,” as you’re expected to travel a lot, and that can be exhausting.
